Update from the church wardens

Rev’d Sam Denyer, our vicar in Wookey Hole since 2018, has taken up a new post in Bristol. 

Historically the church process for recruiting a replacement has been surprisingly slow, so as churchwardens Caroline and I will have the task of drawing up a rota of clergy to take the services each Sunday probably for at least the next year.

A ‘Vacancy’, (its official terminology), is an excellent opportunity to hear a range of Christian services taken by different vicars, but still within the same familiar Wookey Hole setting. All services are open to anyone, any age, and with any faith or none.

So far, we have heard from a retired oncologist who was called to the priesthood after years’ working for the NHS and a senior member of Wells cathedral staff. Both have been very stimulating. 

Weddings, Baptisms, Blessings etc are of course still available and the church is a brilliant venue if you are holding a concert or event. (As the packed audience for the excellent Starling Concert earlier this month will attest). 

Finally, a look ahead to December…

Schhhhh. Christmas is nearly upon us!  The Wookey Hole Carol Service is on Sunday December 7th at 6.30pm.

Are you involved with the pop-up choir. Why not? This is a fun way to spend a cold winter evening. (The church has heating!) There will be a short rehearsal on 18th November at 6.30pm and the another just before the Carol Service at 5.30pm.

No, you need not be a cathedral chorister to take part and Susan (07970 102 959), would be delighted to have a chat if you want more details. What are you waiting for?

The Wookey Hole Club www.wookeyholeclub.co.uk is open 7 days a week: Mon-Thurs 4pm-11pm, Friday 4pm-12am, Saturday 1pm-12am & Sunday 12pm – 11pm (has Skittles, Darts, Cricket & Pool teams).
